Policenauts epsxe newbie emulation questions
Hi everyone, I'm a fairly big Snatcher fan, thanks in no small part to this site, having first played and finished the game last year. Recently hearing about the english Policenauts patch I decided to give emualting it a shot, but i'm a little confused on how to best configure epsxe for optimum playability and graphical/sound quality on my pc. I've tried several of the instillation guides on this forum, but I am a bit confused by which settings would run the game best for me. So basically I've decided to stop lurking and make a post about my queries instead.
What I need to know is basically which plugins should I be installing for epsxe and what the best graphical and audio settings would be best for someone with a decent size monitor (1920 x 1080), windows 7 and a mid to high end pc . I hope you guys can help me out a bit, I'm kind of confused.

Hello NewbieJunker and welcome to the forum!
The The Ultimate Policenauts patch guide that I wrote has the recommended plugins as attachments to that post and has the recommend settings as images. Just copy what it says, the settings are basically bullet proof on all decant windows based PC's.

Hope this helps!

Re: Policenauts epsxe newbie emulation questions
Well i've got the game up and running now, but i'm having some difficulty in the shooting sections. I tried using the mouse for them but the sensitivity seems absurdly high and it makes it very difficult to aim. Rather than trying to adjust it in game i'm wondering if their is a way of making the left/right auto lock system available when playing with a mouse. Is it possible to adjust epsxe for this? Alternatively, can anyone recommend me a good gamepad for this emulator?

From what I remember all the non mouse controls will still be active when going into mouse mode, so Left/Right targeting should still be able to work (if not then simple shut it off by pressing F5). As for the sensitivity thing, ePSXe's out of the box mouse support emulates the exact speed of the PS1 mouse, so if its going to fast simple lower the sensitivity in game. Like you would with the real hardware.
The only gamepad that I ever use with ePSXe is my wired 360 controller. Though you could probably go even farther and plug up an actual PS1 controller to ePSXe with the right adapters.

You coud also lower your Computer's mouse speed, like I did for the bomb section on the PC-9821 version.
(I don't care if that's cheating, it's nearly impossible with the game's super high sensitivety!)

First the PC-88 version of Snatcher then the PC-98 version of Policenauts. Are you some kinda wizard at finding/working this stuff?

Re: Policenauts epsxe newbie emulation questions
Thanks for the replies, I'll try and see if lowering the settings in game does the trick. I suppose I could always configure my own 360 controller for the game too. Not sure how that works with a wireless controller though..

Yeah, lowering the settings in game should work more then enough.
Are you some kinda wizard at finding/working this stuff?

I'm I missing something here?
You don't have to be a wizard to lower the sensitivity of your mouse.
Or are you talking about emulating it? Which also it's an 'advance moon language'. I've played the PC-98 version via emulation as well and it definitely wasn't difficult to emulate.

I think he's talking to me, because I'm the only one that said anything about the PC-9821 version.
In fact, he didn't even say anything about the mouse.

I know he's referring to you, but I'm confused on what exactly this wizard educing achievement is when you where only talking about lowering the sensitivity of your mouse?
I'm not trying to be arrogant or anything, just confused on what exactly the thing to be impressed about is?

.......finding and getting to work the pc-88/98 emulators and such for Snatcher and Policenauts, because.... I dunno, I never had enough determination to find them. and I'm easily impressed.

Finding the PC-9821 version and getting it working.
What's the alternative?

Well, case closed I guess.
